sometimes...

you're supposed to drive to logan after work to try your hand at country swing dancing, and mother nature decides to throw a pre-spring blizzard at you. so, you have to figure something else out. the good people of logan utah are going to have to wait until next week for kate and me to grace them with our presence. while we're on the subject...if you know of any guys that go country swing dancing in logan, please make them aware that we will be there next week. it would be tragic if we drove all that way to simply be wallflowers. we wanna dance!
thanks to the unpredictable and ridiculous weather of utah, kate and i decided to head to institute instead of logan. i have never been to an institute class before. ever. let me tell you this....i needed it. it's funny, because i look back on my life and the situation i'm in now and i realize that everything, and i mean EVERYTHING has happened for a reason. honestly, i think this blizzard happened for a reason. i needed to be in that class tonight. i am so grateful to have the gospel of Jesus Christ in my life. now more than ever, i'm realizing its importance. i would be lost without it. our lesson in class tonight was centered around waiting and having patience in the lord. at the beginning of class, our teacher asked us a simple question "what is it that you're waiting for"? honestly, i can't even answer that question. i don't know what it is i'm waiting for. is that bad? i think i need to figure that out. soon. even though i may not know what i'm waiting for, i can still totally apply this lesson in my life. and when i do figure out what it is i'm waiting for, i'll be prepared with the knowledge that the Lord knows what is best for us. he knows when things need to happen. he knows us better than we know ourselves. isn't that comforting? the main points i took away from the class were these: there is purpose and reason in everything. God has a reason for making us wait, even if we don't know what it is. it's important to wait actively. we can't expect to sit around waiting for something to happen. we need to work for what it is we want. this hit me hard. sometimes i sit around feeling sorry for myself. i hate not having control of my current situation, not knowing what is going to happen. wondering if i'm going to be alone forever. it hit me tonight. i CAN control my life. i need to take action and make things happen, i can't just sit around waiting. the most important thing i will remember from my lesson tonight is this- we are not alone. even in our loneliest hour, our darkest times, we are not alone. wow.
if you were reading today for a funny story, i'm sorry i was unable to humor you. i promise i won't make every post a spiritual one (maybe just once in a while:)) sometimes you just need to share what's on your mind. i felt like i needed to do that tonight. don't you worry though, when we hit up the country swing dancing scene next week, i'm sure there will be more than enough stories to share. most of them will probably be embarrassing and hilarious, because neither of us know what the heck we're getting ourselves into. stay tuned.
